Workwear is different for every job, but when using this term, it mainly refers to those who wear uniforms or required safety gear. This includes a lot of people in the service industry, retail jobs, and most construction workers and trades. If you are just getting into one of these jobs where workwear is essential, then you may not quite have the fundamentals down pat just yet, so here are a few times to get the maximum use out of your workwear so that you don't keep having to spend hundreds of dollars on new items every single year.

Keep A Spare Shirt In Your Locker

A lot of people split time between working outside and inside as well as physically exerting jobs and then quite mundane, easy work. One moment you might be unloading equipment off a truck for what feels like hours and then you will be back inside, behind the counter, dripping in sweat. Keeping a spare shirt in your locker or somewhere safe allows you to swap out the sweaty, uncomfortable and smelly shirt that you were just in for a much cleaner one. This is not only more comfortable but it is a better and more professional look that will help you stand out.

Don't Just Use The Cold Cycle

Many people only wash their clothes on a cold cycle because they have heard correctly that it is better for their outfits. Cold water is less likely to shrink your clothing and can have a lot of benefits for the longevity of your material and when trying to get out stains and dirt. However, workwear often has a lot of synthetic materials that are different to your regular cotton and polyester. These tougher fabrics used on hi-vis vests and thick working pants are often only thoroughly cleaned with hot water cycles, so don't just use cold water automatically! Always check the tag if you are unsure.

Do Not Wash With Other Clothing

Washing workwear alone is always strongly advised for a few reasons:

• The presence of harsher chemicals, more grime and different colours will not go well with your recreational clothes that are designed for comfort.
• You should be using different cleaning agents that are stronger for your workwear.

Also, in general, it is advised to not use a dryer for your workwear but rather simply air dry it so that it doesn't undergo any undue stress. Keep these things in mind as you look for workwear.
